The New York Jets have officially started a full rebuild of their team. At the trade deadline the Jets completely blew up their roster. This has kicked off the rebuild. For the rest of the season this team likely won’t tank, but it’s unlikely that they are the favorite heading into any game. Let’s look at the moves they made and the future of the team.

It was expected that the Jets would make some moves at the trade deadline. The moves they made were unexpected, however. The first big move was to trade Sauce Gardner, their top cornerback and a player that they signed to a massive extension just a few months ago. Gardner was traded to the Indianapolis Colts for two first-round picks and AD Mitchell.

This was a large haul for Gardner but it drastically hurts their defense moving forward by trading the young star. They also traded Michael Carter, another corner, a week prior.

The next big trade was moving Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys. He is one of the top interior defensive lineman in the league and still is in his prime at just 27-years old. The Jets were able to get a first and second-round pick for him.

These moves set up the Jets for some huge hauls in the draft over the next few years. It could be a rapid rebuild but they gave up some of the best young players who would have been great to have for a team starting over.

The player everyone expected to be traded was Breece Hall. Reportedly, they had an offer on the table from the Kansas City Chiefs for a fourth-round pick. The Jets wanted at least a third. They also held onto Jermaine Johnson who had a ton of trade interest but the Jets were looking for a second-round pick which apparently they couldn’t get.

With first-year head coach Aaron Glenn now at the helm, they are likely going to rebuild a team around what he wants. Glenn may have been the first piece in the rebuild. We will see what this team can build through the draft over the next few years.
