Can the Knicks Win a Championship this Year?

Over the past two decades there hasn’t been much hope for a New York Knicks team to win a championship. Right now, in this season, it may be their best chance yet. Expectations have never been higher for this Knicks team and for good reason. They have now had three above-average seasons in a row and expect this next one to be the best yet. Here’s why the Knicks should be considered a real threat to win the NBA Finals this season.

After two trips to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Knicks finally made it to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Everyone thought that they would run through a scrappy, but less-talented team in the Indiana Pacers. Obviously, it didn’t go that way but ultimately the Knicks were two wins away from playing a seven-game series for the championship.

Last year the playoff competition in the Eastern Conference may have been below par. This year that is the truth once again. With teams like the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers not expected to be contenders, that only leaves a few teams in the East that actually believe they can make it to the Finals. The Knicks are one of those teams.

This Knicks team has two proven All Star players, their point guard Jalen Brunson and big man, Karl-Anthony Towns. It’s a dynamic duo but their roster also has other players who were top options on their respective teams before joining the Knicks. That is OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges, who the Knicks gave up their future to win a championship now.

This roster is built now for a deep playoff run with a new head coach in Mike Brown and added depth with a soon healthy Mitchell Robinson, free-agent signee Jordan Clarkson, and now Josh Hart coming off of the bench.

Health was a big reason for the Knicks’ downfall last year. If the team can stay healthy under Mike Brown’s new rotation, they should be in another deep run and potentially hang a championship banner in Madison Square Garden.
