Is there Still Hope for the New York Jets Season?
The New York Jets had high hopes heading into this season. Not only did they have hopes of making the playoffs, there was a lot of chatter about them winning the Super Bowl. Right now it appears they are far from a Super Bowl and even pretty far from the playoffs. Currently, they have three wins compared to seven losses. Let’s look at the odds and how the Jets can turn their season around, which would start with a playoff run.
Sportsbooks have the Jets as 10-1 odds to just make the playoffs. They started off the season fairly promising. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers, the reigning NFC champions, but then they won their next two games. Since then they have lost six of their last seven games. This has put them in a major hole and 11th in the AFC standings.
While they are not technically mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet, most experts believe that you will need at least 10 wins, if not 11, to get into the final playoff spots this year. This leaves them with a major uphill battle for the rest of the season.
The debut for top pass rusher Hasson Reddick and the trade a couple weeks before the trade deadline for Davante Adams were seen as the team’s final moves for a run at the playoffs. Since then it has not gone as planned. They lost two of those three games.
This past week was a crushing blow, and maybe the final blow to this team. The Jets lost to the Arizona Cardinals in a terrible fashion. New York failed to score a touchdown and lost to the Cardinals 6-31.
The Jets will likely need to win all of their final seven games just to have a shot at the playoffs. One thing going for them is a favorable upcoming schedule. They play the Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and then the Los Angeles Rams. All teams currently with losing records.
It may be too little too late for the New York Jets but there is a glimpse of hope for them to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2010 season.
