One of Them Days Takes First Place During Its Debut Weekend

Welcome to another weekly installment of Couch Potato, where I go over what went down on the big and small screens so you can be a better-informed viewer.

The comedic duo of Keke Palmer and SZA laughed all the way to the bank during its debut. One of Them Days, albeit barely, surpassed Disney for first place with $11.6 million. While Mufasa: The Lion King couldn’t scare the competition away, only adding $11.5 million this week, it still reigns supreme overall with $209.7 million domestic and $591.9 million globally. Speaking of scaring things, Wolf Man rounded out the “Top of the Top Ten,” debuting with $10.5 million at the domestic box office.

There’s a new number-one movie on Netflix’s charts after a month of Carry-On supremacy. In its fifth week on the overall chart, The Secret Life of Pets 2 climbed to first place with 15 million views this past week. Carry-On was still in the conversation, though, landing in second place with 7.2 million views during its fifth week on the platform. Horror fans brought 2019’s Ma back onto their screens with 7 million views to round out the “Top of the Top 10.”

Bookworms and thriller fans remain a massive combined audience for Harlan Coben. The most recent Netflix original series based on his books, Missing You, added another 15 million views in its second straight week at the top of the charts. This outperformed two debut shows, starting with American Primeval, which debuted with 10.4 million views. Rounding out the “Top of the Top 10,” Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action amassed 7.7 million views during its debut.

Next week, Flight Risk will see if it can fly to first place at the multiplex. Cinephiles might find themselves at either The Brutalist, which will go wide, or Presence instead.

Stay tuned for that, and until next time, happy viewing!
