The New York Knicks have two players representing them in the NBA-All-Star Game this Sunday night. Jalen Brunson was unsurprisingly named an All Star and even got enough votes to be a starter. Karl-Anthony Towns was also named to the team as a reserve. It should be a great Sunday night for Knicks fans as they watch their two star players get recognized as some of the top talent in the league.

This is the first time in over a decade that the Knicks have had two All Stars. The last time was in 2013 when Carmelto Anthony was named a starter and Tyson Chandler a reserve. That was also the last time the Knicks were a competitive team in the East before acquiring Jalen Brunson in 2022 and things finally turned around for the franchise.

Jalen Brunson was a near lock to be a starter in the Eastern Conference. He is clearly still the best player on this Knicks team that sits third in the standings. He’s also averaging 26.1 points and a career-high 7.5 assists per game as well. Brunson was named to his first All Star team last season and now has done it in back-to-back years.

Karl-Anthony Towns would have been a surprise All-Star selection before the year began as he was traded to the Knicks just weeks before the tipoff of the regular season. Towns is no stranger to the All-Star game, he has now been there for a fifth time in his career. He was an All Star last season on the Minnesota Timberwolves but this year he has upped his scoring average by 2.9 points and his rebounds by more than 5 per game.

Towns and Brunson would have been teammates in the past All-Star Game format where they were separated by conferences. This year; however, they are not due to a new structure of the game which incorporates three teams of All Stars that were drafted by TNT analysts.

The New York Knicks having two All Stars is a sign they are headed in the right direction as a franchise. They are not only well represented in the game but will be a force to contend with in the playoffs come that time.
