How Long Until the Giants Start Jaxson Dart?

The New York Giants opted not to draft a quarterback with the third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead they took elite pass rusher Abdul Carter. That allowed them to use a later pick in the first round to get their guy at quarterback, Jaxson Dart. Since the draft the question has been when Giants fans will be able to see the young quarterback. After a strong preseason performance, it may be impossible to keep him off the field this year. Let’s look at when the Giants may hand the keys to the offense over to Dart.
The New York Giants made three major moves this offseason to fill the quarterback spot. Last season they let go of Daniel Jones who had started the past six years. In free agency the Giants made it a priority to sign Russell Wilson but they also got Jameis Winston. These two veterans are expected to be gap quarterbacks to help usher in the next era of a franchise quarterback such as Dart.

Dart was brought in via the draft after Wilson and Winston had been signed. That likely means he won’t be the starter week one of the season, especially since he wasn’t a top-10 pick. Dart was still a first rounder and New York should try to see if he can be the franchise QB sooner rather than later.
The problem is that right now Wilson believes he is the guy and he likely will be the first week at least. If he plays really well he could even be the starter for the whole season and possibly beyond. Looking at the Giants schedule, it’s not an easy one early on.
New York opens up against two of the favorites in their division in Washington and Dallas. After that they face two extremely tough AFC West teams in Kansas City and the Chargers. If the Giants lose all four of those games, could we see Dart as early as week five vs New Orleans? It’s not entirely impossible.
