Fantastic Four Falls Fantastically in Second Week at the Box Office

Welcome to another weekly installment of Couch Potato, where I go over what went down on the big and small screens so you can be a better-informed viewer.
The bad news keeps coming for Marvel’s box office performance since peaking years ago. Fantastic Four fell a whopping 66% to make $40 million in its second weekend, which only amounts to a domestic total of $198.4 million and global total of $368.7 million. The sequel to a recent runaway success, The Bad Guys 2, debuted with an impressive $22.2 million domestic and $68.7 million global total. Riding the wave of great word of mouth from audiences and critics alike, The Naked Gun rounded out the “Top of the Top 10” debuting with a whopping $17 million domestically and $42 million globally.
Over on the Netflix charts, it was the Adam Sandler story. During its long-anticipated debut weekend, Happy Gilmore 2 was able to shoot up 46 million views. The only exception to Adam Sandler’s takeover of the charts was KPop Demon Hunters, which added 26 million more views in its sixth consecutive week at the top of the charts. The original Happy Gilmore continued to enjoy a resurgence on the heels of the sequel’s release with another 11 million views in its second week back on the charts, rounding out the “Top of the Top 10.”
If you were looking for something to binge this week, you probably landed on UNTAMED’s series debut. In its second week, it climbed to first place with 26.1 million views. This allowed it to beat out Amy Bradley Is Missing that only added another 10.2 million views. Rounding out the “Top of the Top 10,” Hunting Wives, based on the bestselling novel, debuted with an initial 5.2 million views.
Next week, there truly is something for everyone. Both Freakier Friday and Weapons will be duking it out at the box office for supremacy, but there will surely be a sizable audience for both of them.
Stay tuned for that, and until next time, happy viewing!
