The Early Release for The Exorcist: Believer Wound Up Working Out

Welcome to another weekly installment of Couch Potato, where I go over what went down on the big and small screens so you can be a better-informed viewer.

The Exorcist: Believer dropped this weekend, debuting at number one with $27.2 million. Those of you who read last week’s edition will know that this came as the result of opening a week early to get out of Taylor Swift’s way. This clearly worked out for the studio, securing the number one spot.  PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie dropped to second place this week as a result of that, with $11.7 million and a respectable 48% hold. Finally, Saw X can give up any hope of getting the number one spot, no matter what game Jigsaw brings out to play.

Over on Netflix this week, Reptile was able to use its name-recognition cast to its advantage, debuting in first place with 17 million views. This meant that Love Is in the Air had to settle for second place in its own debut with a still-respectable 11.7 million views. Finally, The Black Book climbed to reach the “Top of the Top 10” this week in third place, just behind that with 11.2 million views.

Finally, when it comes to streaming, Sex Education kept its first-place spot with a whopping 108 million hours viewed in its second week. Not even the debut of Who Killed Jill Dando? could come close with 12 million hours viewed, earning it second place on the charts. Finally, it looks like Netflix’s reality TV brand is alive and well with the most recent season of Love is Blind actually climbing up from its debut to secure a spot in the “Top of the Top 10” in third place.

Next week, it won’t be a question of whether or not Taylor Swift will bring home a number-one debut, but how much money can she actually make on this movie? Presales currently surpass $100 million worldwide, which would place her in the same area as Barbie, which is truly incredible, so it’ll be interesting to see what the numbers look like.

Stay tuned for that, and until next time, happy viewing!
