Terrifier 3 is Surprise Number One as Joker Sequel Continues to Hemorrhage Cash
Welcome to another weekly installment of Couch Potato, where I go over what went down on the big and small screens so you can be a better-informed viewer.
It looks like Art the Clown’s victims aren’t the only ones violently bleeding out. As Terrifier 3 debuted at number one with $18.3 million, it seemingly took all of the Joker sequel’s box office with it. It couldn’t even outperform The Wild Robot, which had a very impressive 29% drop adding $13.4 million to its $83.7 million domestic total. Joker: Folie à Deux was only barely able to round out the “Top of the Top 10” in only its second week, adding $7 million to its measly $51.6 million domestic box office.
It was a week full of older movies on the Netflix charts. In first place, Tim Burton’s 2016 film, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, debuted on the platform with 7.1 million views. The only new piece of media we have to discuss this week was Jailbreak: Love on the Run, as true crime fans helped it climb to second place in its second week with 6.5 million views. Rounding out the “Top of the Top 10” was babysitting-favorite Sing which has been in the Top 10 for 11 weeks now but only climbed its way up this past week with 5.6 million views.
Love and murder dominated the series available on the platform this week. Nobody Wants This was able to climb to first place in its second week with 70 million hours watched. Fresh off the news of the new season being developed around infamous serial killer Ed Gein, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story continued to be a top performer on the charts as expected, securing a strong second place. Finally, Love is Blind returned for another season and had a solid enough debut with 36 million hours watched, rounding out the “Top of the Top 10.”
Next week, while the Joker might not be smiling these days, Smile 2 hopes to have better luck at the box office. If horror isn’t your style, Anora will have a smaller release in order to qualify for awards season.
Stay tuned for that, and until next time, happy viewing!
