New York Giants Season Preview

It’s a new era for New York Giants football. This season marks the first one since 2019 that Daniel Jones won’t be the starting quarterback. For this season hopes are low but there are some things to watch for and even more things to look forward to. Let’s look at them in this season preview.

There aren’t many NFL experts that have the Giants pegged as a playoff team. There aren’t even many that have the Giants as a team that can win more than half of their games. With that said, expectations are low, so it is possible to be pleasantly surprised this season.

The beginning of the season is not expected to be easy, however. New York opens up with two tough divisional opponents in the Washington Commanders and then the Dallas Cowboys. They were 0-4 vs those teams last year. Then, they will have to take on two of the top teams from the AFC in weeks 3 and 4 in Kansas City and the Chargers. The Giants aren’t favored in any of these first four games.

The most important position on the field is quarterback and to replace Daniel Jones the Giants brought in two veteran quarterbacks in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston and also a first-round rookie in Jaxson Dart. Wilson will get the first crack at the starting spot. Winston will be lurking right behind him and the fans will be clamoring for Dart at any misstep or loss from Wilson.

It was an abysmal offense in the first year without Saquon Barkley last season. With a new quarterback, a flashy and talented young wide receiver in Malik Nabers, and a highly-touted-rookie-running back in Cam Skattebo, things could look very different this season.

On defense, this team has what looks like an elite pass rush on paper. An already talented group led by Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence II, and Kayvon Thibodeaux will get a revamp with the third-overall pick, Abdul Carter. They are hoping that defense will be their strength as the offense figures out their identity.

There aren’t high expectations for this Giants team. This season is seen as a rebuilding one that will hopefully pave the way for rookie Jaxson Dart to eventually take the reins running with a ready-to-win team when the time is right.
