Knicks and Nets Trade Deadline Recap

The trade deadline from both New York teams was relatively quiet. The rumors were swirling about who would be traded from both the Nets and the Knicks. In the end the Knicks made a couple of moves while Brooklyn stayed quiet on the trade front but is expected to make another move soon. Let’s get into what each of these teams did at the NBA trade deadline.
New York Knicks
The Knicks didn’t make a huge splash at the deadline compared to last year. Last season they acquired OG Anunoby before the deadline. This year they made the move to get a solid role player. The Knicks got Delon Wright from the Milwaukee Bucks, who is one of the top guard defenders in the league. He could compete for backup minutes at point guard or even shooting guard.
In the Wright trade that the Knicks made they had to move Jericho Sims to Milwaukee, their backup center. Sims is averaging 1.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per game. Those are all career lows. Sims was only getting real minutes when Karl-Anthony Towns was ruled out for the game.
Brooklyn Nets

The Nets were expected to be busy at the trade deadline and it turned out that was all talk. Possibly they had a good amount of interest and phone calls about some of their veteran players but nothing came to fruition. Brooklyn was one of the handful of teams to not make a trade at the deadline. Weeks before the deadline the Nets made their moves by trading Dennis Schroder and Dorian Finney-Smith.
A move that Brooklyn is rumored to make is to buyout Ben Simmons. Simmons has been good when playing for Brooklyn but doesn’t appear to be a part of their future. He’s also been in and out of the lineup and has played over 30 minutes in just two games this year despite starting 24 times.
While it was a quiet trade deadline for the Nets, they made their moves earlier in the season and were content with what they have. The Knicks got a backup guard who could be pivotal in the playoffs for his defense in Delon Wright.
