Brooklyn Nets 2025-26 Season Preview

The NBA season is nearly here. For many teams that means prepping for a run at the playoffs or even a championship. For the Brooklyn Nets, that means the first season fully leaning into a rebuild. Let’s look at how this rebuild came to be, what the future may hold for the Nets, and what to expect for this season.
The Nets finally traded most of their veteran players over the past couple of years. They have fully gone into rebuild mode now. By trading players like Mikal Bridges, Dennis Schroder, Cam Johnson, D’Angelo Russell, and Bojan Bogdanovic they have jumpstarted the process. Winning clearly hasn’t been the focus of the past couple of seasons but they are now set to build for the future.
This past NBA draft, the Nets had five picks in the first round. They are hoping that at least a couple of those picks can turn into starting caliber players, if not stars in the league. Brooklyn has also taken a chance on a couple of players with high upside. They traded Cam Johnson who is a solid player for Michael Porter Jr., who people still believe has star potential. They also re-signed Cam Thomas who has already shown he can score in bunches. Besides those two veterans, this team is extremely young.

The Nets are using this year to groom some of their young players. They also may not be done with trades. Nic Claxton is a player who could command a lot of trade interest for a contending team. It wouldn’t be surprising if he is traded for more assets.
As far as being competitive this season, it’s unlikely. The Eastern Conference has a handful of teams that don’t expect to make the playoffs but at absolute best the Nets may possibly get into the play-in games. That’s a big if and is dependent on the duo of Thomas and Porter being better than expected.
Nets fans actually may have more to root for this year than in the past couple of seasons. At least the fans know that they are looking at young players who the franchise wants to have for a long time. The Oklahoma City Thunder are a great example of how Brooklyn is looking to build their team by trading veterans for picks and building through the draft.
