3 Trades the Knicks’ Trades for a Championship Run

It’s no secret that the New York Knicks are currently closer than they have been to an NBA championship in years. Arguably, this is the closest they have been since the 1990s, over 20 years ago. While this team is close to winning a championship and is one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, they may be a move away from taking down one of the top teams to win the finals. Let’s look at three deals they could make to increase their odds of winning a championship this season.

Trade for Robert Williams

People may forget that Robert Williams was the starting center on the Boston Celtics and one of the top, young big men in the NBA just a couple of years ago. Injuries have all but ruined his past three seasons in the NBA but now he is healthy and the third-string center on the Portland Trail Blazers who have two other young and promising centers. He’s a prime trade candidate and the Knicks would make an ideal landing spot for him.

Williams brings a defensive presence inside that the Knicks don’t have. They don’t have much defense at all to be frank but adding an anchor down low to protect the rim and make poor perimeter defenders like Jalen Brunson less of a liability could take this team to the next level.

I’m not even sure this is possible but DiVencenzo is just a placeholder name here for what could be another scorer off the bench. The depth on the Knicks is severely lacking. If they can get a scoring wing off of the bench who can also defend, that would greatly benefit them in the regular season and if any injuries occurred in the playoffs. Jordan Clarkson or Cam Johnson are two other names who could be up in trade talks soon.

Giannis Antemtokuompo

This would be a massive overhaul of a trade. If the Knicks believe that this group isn’t that close to winning a championship now or in the next few years, trading for Giannis would definitely make that a reality. He has won a championship before with arguably less talent and this year has started poorly for the Milwaukee Bucks. The Knicks would have to find a way to keep Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns in this deal but then any other player and picks would be on the table to make this move happen.
